This is kind of ridiculous that disabilities isn't really getting represented in Congress. There are people who believe AID/HIV is the number one thing affecting people in this nation. When talks in Congress come up and around social security, the only thing I hear them talk about is the elderly. And those of us with disabilities can only earn a crummy income (okay this is my opinion). Then you have individuals with disabilities who are getting DENIED for social security when illegal immigrants are getting a much EASIER access to it when we're the ones who need it and we're AMERICANS for crying out loud!
I could go further with my frustrations but am going to stick to disabilities. I've lived with a left/right Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) for nearly ten years. I was denied nearly three years before I was able to get access to social security and other programs for the disabled. Which is dingy! Wanna know something creepy? The type of TBI I live with, typically when someone sustains this, they typically/usually die from it (very low survival rate). I know this because I asked my neuropsychologist at one time. It feels like if Congress does any talking on disabilities, it deals with mental illnesses. Oh which by the way, I don't have one but it's become annoying at how many people will automatically think I have one just because I say I have a TBI. Then here's a fact I would love to shout: TBI affects 1.4 million Americans and it affects more Americans than Breast Cancer, HIV/AIDS, Spinal Cord Injuries, and Multiple Sclerosis will affect COMBINED.
